Coin Highlights:
The 1999 U.S. Mint Proof Set features nine different coins. Although the coins included in this set have no silver content, each coin has been struck with everyday circulation metals and a special proof finish. The proof quality of each coin means that the featured designs appear as frosted, while the coins backgrounds are mirrored.
History
The nine coins included in this set are being resold due to unsold inventory from the United States Mint. Many of these coins are being released for purchase to the public again. 1999 was special because it marked the first year of the States Quarters Program, which was an exclusive collection manufactured by the United States Mint that ran from 1999 to 2008. This proof set helps to honor the start of this collection, while also including other classic U.S. currency.
Obverse
All obverse designs featured in the 1999 U.S. Mint Proof Set differ depending on which coin the viewer hold. The obverse on the five state quarters shows the portrait of George Washington. The other coins feature portraits of the following: Kennedy on the half-dollar, Franklin D. Roosevelt on the dime, Thomas Jefferson on the nickel, and Abraham Lincoln on the penny.
Reverse
Reverse designs included in the 1999 U.S. Mint Proof Set will also vary. Each state quarter has its own design to honor the five following states: Georgia, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The other four coins in this set feature the traditional reverse designs that United States currency is known for.
