{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Issued by the United States Mint located in Philadelphia, the 1999 American Silver Eagle contains 1 oz. of .999 fine silver. With reeded edges, each coin measures approximately 40.6 mm in diameter and 2.98 mm in thickness, with a weight of 31.1 grams.
Each American Silver Eagle has similar designs on both its obverse and reverse. The obverse side features the Walking Liberty design created by Adolph A. Weinman for the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The design depicts Lady Liberty beckoning toward an impending sunrise. The words “LIBERTY” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” along with the date of mintage, 1999, are included as well.
The reverse of the coin features the Great Seal, a design that was adopted in 1782 as the official coat of arms of the United States. In 1986, the chief engraver of the U.S. Mint, John Mercanti, adapted the image in order to fit the back of the Silver Eagle. The design features an eagle clasping a bundle of arrows in one claw with an olive branch in the other. In its mouth, the eagle holds a banner which reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM” or “Out of Many, One.” In addition, the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR” are engraved.
