Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1998 Chinese Panda Gold Coin, you’ll be greeted by the majestic Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, a symbol of prosperity and tradition deeply rooted in Chinese culture. Inscriptions include the nation of issue and the 1998 small date mark.

Reverse

Meanwhile, the reverse of 1998 Panda 1 oz Gold Coins showcases the iconic image of a Giant Panda peacefully seated on a rock, surrounded by lush foliage. Giant pandas, renowned for their bamboo-centric diet, possess remarkable adaptations, including a “pseudo-thumb” that aids in grasping bamboo stems. Despite being classified as carnivores, their digestive system closely resembles that of herbivores. Inscriptions read 100 Yuan and .999 AU 1 OZ.

History

Giant pandas have a low reproductive rate. Female pandas are fertile for only two or three days a year, usually in the spring, during which they seek out males for mating. Cubs are born after a gestation period of about 5 months and are usually born in late summer or early autumn. They typically stay with their mother for about 1.5 to 2 years before becoming independent.
