{{/presale}}Fractional weight gold bullion coins are incredibly popular, as they offer collectors and investors the opportunity to snag gold at a lower cost than full 1 oz coins. If you are interested in fractional weight gold bullion coins, check out these 1998 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The American Eagle Coin program launched in 1986 from the United States Mint. At launch, these 1/2 oz gold bullion coins were available, but not all of the fractional weight coins were released at this time. Instead, they were added to the lineup over numerous years.
Today, you can purchase American Eagle Coins in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold versions. There are bullion, proof, and uncirculated versions of each of these coins as well. The United States Mint also offers American Eagles in silver, platinum, and palladium. Each metal type offers different designs on both the obverse and reverse faces.
Obverse
The obverse face of the coins features the image of Lady Liberty as imagined by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907. In the design, Lady Liberty walks forward with the sun at her back. She carries both an olive branch and a lit torch in her hands. The design was created for the Gold Double Eagle Coins that were first released in 1907.
Reverse
The reverse face of these coins features the image of a bald eagle family as designed by sculptor Miley Busiek. The image was created just for these coins in 1986, and it shows a male bald eagle returning to its nest with an olive branch in its talons. In the nest, a female and hatchling wait for him.
Ordering
When your coins arrive, they will be in plastic flips. These plastic flips will protect your coins during both shipping and storage. The coins contain 91.67% gold by weight, containing exactly 1/2 Troy ounce of pure 22-karat gold. The rest of the coin is made of copper and silver, making the coins more durable.
