Proof American Eagle Gold Coins were introduced in 1986 with a 1 oz gold coin only. The 1/2 oz version was introduced in 1987, followed by these 1/4 oz gold coins and the 1/10 oz gold coin in 1988.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1996-W Proof Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins, you will find Lady Liberty. This iconic design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the Double Eagle Gold Coin.
