The Gold Panda Series was introduced by the Chinese Mint in 1982, offering something new with its yearly changing coin designs. Since its beginning, the series has shown different images of the Giant Panda each year, except for 2002 when the design stayed the same. Provident Metals now has 1994 Chinese Panda 1 oz Gold Coins available featuring the Small Date variety.

Highlights:

  • Comes in a sealed plastic pouch!
  • Small Date specimens!
  • 13th year of issue for the Gold Panda Series!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • The face value of 100 Yuan is fully supported by the Chinese government.
  • Obverse showcases the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • Reverse displays a Giant Panda playing with bamboo.

Every 1994 Chinese Panda 1 oz Gold Coin is protected in a sealed plastic pouch. These coins are identified as Small Date versions, meaning the numerals used to show the date are smaller than those found on other 1994 releases.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1994 Chinese Panda Gold Coin, youll find the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This well-known landmark is part of the Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing, and the image captures the large stairway leading up to the halls entrance.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1994 Panda 1 oz Gold Coin shows a Giant Panda sitting by a small pool of water while playing with bamboo shoots. The panda’s playful pose adds charm to the design.

History

Pandas have thick, wooly fur that helps them stay warm in the cool, damp conditions of their bamboo forest homes. Each strand of fur has a hollow center that improves insulation, much like polar bears’ fur. Beneath the surface, a pandas skin is black under the black areas of fur and pink where the fur is white. This pattern forms early in life and stays the same over the years.
