{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Mexican Mint launched the Silver Libertad Series in 1982, starting with the 1 oz silver coin. Since that first release, the 1 oz version has been issued every year without a break. While the series has seen changes in design over time, the 1 oz Silver Libertad remains a consistent feature. Some early releases feature different artwork on either side. Right now, 1992 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1992 Mexican Libertad 1 oz Silver Coin in this listing comes packaged in a protective flip. The 1992 edition holds the record for highest mintage in the Silver Libertad lineup. Its total of 2,458,000 coins beats the 1985 issue by over 400,000 coins and nearly doubles the mintage recorded for the highest total in the 21st century, which occurred in 2016.
Obverse
The obverse of 1992 Mexican Libertad Silver Coins features the official coat of arms for Mexico. This scene shows a golden eagle perched on a cactus while gripping a snake in its beak and claws. A patterned border with Aztec influences decorates the outer rim of the design. The inscription includes ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1992 Libertad 1 oz Silver Coin includes the historic Winged Victory image. Originally used on the Gold Centenario, this design shows Victory facing forward with a laurel wreath held in her right hand and broken chains resting in her left. The inscription reads 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 1992 MEXICO LEY .999, and the Mo mint mark.
History
In the early years of the Libertad Series, the designs came from the Gold Centenario coin originally issued in 1921. From 1982 through 1999, the obverse featured the modern version of Mexicos national emblem without any historical additions. In 2000, larger coins such as the 1 oz Silver Libertad received a new border showing 10 previous versions of the coat of arms. On the reverse, coins issued between 1982 and 1995 feature a front-facing Winged Victory image. A revised side-angle version began appearing in 1996.
