Coin Highlights
Obverse
The obverse side features the famous depiction of Lady Liberty designed by the renowned icon, Augustus Saint Gauden. She is shown majestically walking from the Capitol in Washington D.C in a powerful stride that exudes confidence and wealth. In one hand, she holds the symbolic olive branch and in the other, a flaming beacon of hope.
Reverse
Designed by Miley Busiek, the reverse features a male bald eagle along with a female eagle and her young awaiting his return. This design was made just for these coins in 1986 and has long since gone on to become one of the worlds most iconic historical images.
History
The United States Mint launched the American Eagle Coin program in 1986. At that time, there was a more limited selection than we are used to today. Now, you can buy four different weights of American Eagle Gold Coins: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. The mint also offers three different options for finishes: bullion, proof, and uncirculated, although the uncirculated, also called burnished, arent always struck by the mint.
The mint has also created American Eagles in three additional metal types: silver, platinum, and palladium. These metal types will feature a unique design with the same Americana-focused themes.
