{{/presale}}The 1989 Proof American Eagle Silver Coin is one of the harder coins from the 1980s to find in this collection, particularly as a certified specimen. The 1989 coin had a mintage 60% lower than the debut issue in 1986 and was released at a point in history when silver prices were around $5.50 per ounce. What some may consider a vintage release in the Proof American Eagle Series, 1989 coins represent one of just four issues from the first decade of the series. Today, you have the chance to buy 1989-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
After the 1986 debut of the Proof American Eagle Silver Coins, the United States Mint noticed an immediate and significant drop in the next two years. The 1987 release dropped by 40% compared to the debut issue and the 1988 release was down nearly 60% from the debut issue, marking the low point for coining in the 1980s. In 1989, demand rebounded as the first of two years of growing demand before the Proof American Eagle Silver Coins settled at very low mintage levels throughout the rest of the 1990s. The mintage seen in 1989 would not be surpassed, aside from the 1990 release, until 2001.
