{{/presale}}One of the most famous of the world’s gold bullion investment coins began production in 1989 at the instigation of the Austrian National Council. Consistent in its design and reliable in its availability, the Austrian Philharmonic coin is also known on European markets as the Vienna Philharmonic, in reference to the globally famed Orchestra. Forgery-proofed and struck in ethically sourced 24-carat gold, the Austrian Philharmonic debuted to an enthusiastic welcome from the investors and collectors who made it a best-seller in Europe and around the world just a year after its first release. The 1989 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin set it all in motion, and is now offered by Provident Metals for online purchase.
Highlights:
The 1989 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin is available to you in a plastic flip-top container, and the team at Provident Metals tracks and fully insures each shipment. It shows a face value backed by the Oesterreichische Nationalbank, of which the Austrian Mint is a division.
Obverse
The obverse field features the iconic pipe organ known to audiences around the globe from the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna. This is accompanied by the lettering “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH,” “1 UNZE GOLD 999.9,” “1989” and “2000 SCHILLING.”
Reverse
The coin’s reverse side features four violins arrayed on either side of a cello in the foreground and a Viennese horn, a bassoon, and a harp arrayed behind them. Alongside is the lettering “WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.”
History
Thomas Pesendorfer, the Austrian Mint’s chief engraver, created the design that celebrates the musical legacy of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. All the way back to its founding, that Orchestra has been associated with the very best composers and instrumental virtuosos in European classical music, delivering music at such a high standard that Richard Strauss once said of it: “All praise of the Vienna Philharmonic reveals itself as understatement.” Known as a highly stable gold investment, the coin has gone on to become simply of one of the most consistently popular and stable ways of investing in gold, with total sales in the tens of millions that comprise hundreds of tons of precious metal.
