{{/presale}}The American Eagle Gold Coin is the official gold bullion coin of the United States of America. Released in 1986, this coin series marked the return of regular gold coining at the United States Mint, even though the coins arent intended for circulation use. The last time large volumes of gold coins were issued by the US Mint was 1933, the final year of the US Eagle denomination. Right now, you can buy 1987 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.

Obverse
Lady Liberty features on the obverse field of 1987 American Eagle Gold Coins. This historic design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and originally featured on the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin from the US Mint. The design shows Libertys full-length figure in front-facing relief as she strides forward holding up a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The U.S. Capitol Building features at her feet with sun rays on the horizon in the background. A ring of 50 stars encircles the design field. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and MCMXXXVII.
Reverse
A family of American bald eagles graces the reverse side of the 1987 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin. This work of art was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek for the exclusive use of the American Eagle Gold Coin Series. This image shows a male eagle returning to the nest with an olive branch as a female eagle guards hatchlings within. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1 OZ. FINE GOLD 50 DOLLARS.
History
The 1987 American Eagle Gold release offers the 7th highest mintage in the history of the series at 1,045,500 coins. At this point in the programs history, the date marks on the obverse were still in Roman numerals rather than Arabic numerals.
