Obverse
Walking Liberty is depicted on the obverse face of all American Eagle Silver Coins. This vision of Liberty was created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 and submitted to the US Mint, which eventually used it on the half dollar from 1916 to 1947. It depicts Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon with branches of oak and laurel in one hand and the American flag draped over her shoulders.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle of the United States is featured on the reverse of the American Eagle Silver coin. This design was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti and depicts the American bald eagle with the national heraldic shield on its chest. The bird clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other. A cluster of 13 stars is arranged above its head in a tight triangle.
History
American Eagle Silver Coins are produced only in 1 oz silver in the bullion, proof, and burnished versions. The bullion coin is not only the highest minted among the three versions, but is also the highest minted in the world. The 2015 coin alone sold a total of 47 million coins for a series record.
