Chinese Panda gold bullion coins debuted with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz options in 1982. One year later, a 1/20 oz gold coin was added, as well as a silver proof. It wasnt until 1989 than the Chinese Panda silver coin was offered as a BU investment option.

Obverse

The 1983 Chinese Gold Panda Coin showcases an exclusive design on its obverse side. A captivating image of a Giant Panda is featured, captured in right-facing relief. The background field subtly incorporates bamboo leaves, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Inscriptions on this side include English-language markings of AU, 1/2 OZ, 99.9%, and 50 Yuan.

Reverse

On the flip side of the 1983 Chinese Panda Coin, the mint showcases a splendid representation of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. As the focal point of the Temple of Heaven Complex, this architectural masterpiece has been an enduring symbol within the coin series since its inception in 1982. Inscriptions include the nation of issue and 1983.

History

Giant pandas primarily reside in the temperate broadleaf and coniferous forests, which are characterized by a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees. These forests offer the pandas the necessary cover and a variety of food sources. Bamboo, in particular, is a critical component of their diet, constituting up to 99% of their food intake.
