Obverse
The obverse of the 1981 South African Krugerrand Gold Coin features a left-facing portrait of Paul Kruger, a design originally created in the 1890s. This image of Kruger has appeared on South African currency for more than a century, symbolizing the enduring legacy of this national leader. Inscriptions read SUID-AFRIKA and SOUTH AFRICA.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 1981 Krugerrand 1/10 oz Gold Coin displays a finely detailed Springbok antelope, a national symbol of South Africa. The Springbok is shown in a pronking position, a leap that represents its grace and agility. The inscriptions here read 1/10 KRUGERRAND, 1981, FYNGOUD, and 1/10 OZ FINE GOLD.
History
Paul Kruger, often called “Oom Paul” or Uncle Paul, served as president of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1900. Born in the Cape Colony in 1825, Kruger grew up as a frontiersman and farmer, eventually rising to become a prominent leader in South African history.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
