{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The year 1976 marked the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the United States celebrated the Bicentennial with events held nationwide. To honor this milestone, the United States Mint released special Bicentennial Silver Coin Sets featuring one-time reverse designs on the US Dollar, US Half Dollar, and US Quarter. These commemorative sets reflect the spirit of the anniversary, and 1976-S US Mint Bicentennial Silver Sets are now available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1976-S US Mint Bicentennial Silver Set available from Provident Metals comes housed in a three-coin presentation box. The set includes an Eisenhower Dollar, a Kennedy Half Dollar, and a Washington Quarter. Each coin is struck in a 40% silver and 60% copper composition. These proof coins feature frosted details and mirrored fields and bear the S mint mark from the San Francisco Mint.
Obverse
The obverse designs of the coins showcase three prominent US presidents. The Eisenhower Dollar features President Dwight D. Eisenhower in left-profile relief. President John F. Kennedy appears on the obverse of the half dollar, while President George Washington is shown on the quarter. Each portrait follows the traditional style used on US circulating coinage.
Reverse
On the reverse of the coins in the 1976-S Bicentennial Silver Set are special designs created exclusively for the Bicentennial. The Eisenhower Dollar displays the Liberty Bell set against the Moon. Independence Hall in Philadelphia appears on the half dollar. The quarter features a colonial drummer, representing the American Revolution.
History
One of the most notable Bicentennial events was Operation Sail, which brought a fleet of international tall ships into New York Harbor on July 4th. Millions attended celebrations that included fireworks, reenactments, and local parades. The Bicentennial also encouraged Americans to reflect on their shared history through restoration projects, educational programs, and the creation of commemorative items like special coinage and time capsules. These efforts helped capture the importance of the anniversary during a time of national reflection.
