{{/presale}}One of the most recognizable circulating coins in the United States, the Jefferson Nickel has been the standard 5-cent coin issued by the US Mint since 1938. Provident Metals is excited to offer this coin in a certified slab from the Professional Coin Grading Service, which assigned it a near-perfect score as well as the popular Deep Cameo designation. Provident Metals now has 1960 Jefferson Nickels available to you for purchase online in near-perfect condition.
Coin Highlights:
When you order 1960 Jefferson Nickels in this Provident Metals online listing, they will arrive to you in plastic slabs from the Professional Coin Grading Service. Using a scale of 1-70, PCGS awarded these coins a nearly perfect grade of Proof 69. Considering their age, this is quite impressive. The coins also boast the coveted Deep Cameo designation, meaning that their raised devices have a particularly strong degree of frost. This quality is then contrasted by mirror-like fields.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1960 Nickels, you will find an effigy of Thomas Jefferson. Designed by Felix Schlag, this portrait depicts the 3rd US President in left-profile relief from the chest up. An iconic design, this bust was featured on circulating nickels from 1938 until 2004, when the mint issued a new design. The obverse field also contains inscriptions that read IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 1960.
Reverse
The reverse side of these Jefferson Nickels features Monticello. This property built by Jefferson in 1772 has appeared on the reverse of the nickel since 1938. It is located near Charlottesville Virginia and is considered a US National Historic Landmark. You will also see inscriptions on the reverse side reading MONTICELLO, E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, FIVE CENTS.
History
Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743 and is considered one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Jefferson was highly instrumental in drafting the Declaration of Independence and also served in the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary War. Following stints as US Secretary of State and Vice President, Jefferson was elected as the third President of the United States in 1800.
