{{/presale}}Vintage US paper currency can offer collectors a great window into the fascinating history of the United States. Context is everything, and the 1934a Hawaii notes are a great example of why. Each note features a Hawaii overprint on the reverse side, which was a cautionary measure taken by the US government in the event that Japan took over Hawaii after the Pearl Harbor attack. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase Very Fine 1934a $20 Federal Reserve Hawaii Notes online at Provident Metals.
Note Highlights:
When you order the 1934a $20 Hawaii Note in this online Provident Metals listing, you will receive a genuine legal tender note in Very Fine condition. This designation describes a note that has some clear signs of circulation, such as fold marks and light soiling. For protection, we deliver each note inside a plastic currency sleeve.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 1934a Federal Reserve Hawaii Notes you will see a portrait of Andrew Jackson. Jackson was a replacement for Grover Cleveland on the $20 bill and first graced its front side in 1928. To the left and right sides of the portrait, you will see the notes serial number in special brown lettering. You will also find the seal in the same brown ink, as well as the word Hawaii on both ends of the bill.
Reverse
The reverse of $20 Federal Reserve Hawaii Notes contains an image of the White House. This design was introduced in 1928, replacing previous images that showed various forms of transportation. In each corner of the note, you will see its denomination, and printed in large-sized lettering across the center is the word Hawaii.
History
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor resulted in the deaths of over 2400 Americans, causing President Roosevelt to declare it a date which will live in infamy. The emergency currency that was printed was a precautionary measure in the event that Japan took control of Hawaii. The first notes were printed on June 25, 1942. However, after the Allied victory, notes started getting recalled in April 1946. While most of these notes were destroyed, some have survived to this day thanks to service members, who held onto them as keepsakes.
