The 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service significantly altered the course of American history. However, things could have been worse. The country feared an actual takeover of Hawaii by Japan, and even printed an emergency series of Hawaii notes that would be nullified in the event of an invasion. While many were destroyed, some of these notes survived and are highly sought by collectors of paper currency. Today, Provident Metals has Very Fine 1934a $10 Federal Reserve Hawaii Notes available to purchase online.

Note Highlights:

  • Delivered in a protective plastic currency sleeve!
  • Exclusive Hawaii emergency note design!
  • Note is in Very Fine condition!
  • Includes special brown ink seal and serial numbers!
  • Identifying Hawaii overprinting found on each side.
  • Bears a face value of $10 (USD) backed by the United States.
  • The obverse contains a portrait of Alexander Hamilton.
  • On the reverse there is a rendition of the Treasury Building.

Each 1934a Federal Reserve Hawaii Note ordered from Provident Metals will arrive inside a plastic protective currency sleeve. These notes are listed in Very Fine condition, which means evidence of circulation will be visible in the form of folds and light soiling. Please note that these bills are part of the 1934a series. This does not refer to when they were printed, but rather when the notes design was adopted.

Obverse

Alexander Hamilton is shown on the obverse of $10 Federal Reserve Hawaii Notes. Hamilton was a Founding Father and is considered the architect of the national banking system. In brown ink you will also see the serial number printed twice, as well as the notes seal. Other details include the Julian-Morgenthau signatures and the word Hawaii on each end of the bill.

Reverse

The US Treasury Building is featured on the reverse of 1934a $10 Federal Reserve Hawaii Note. Above this design are the words The United States of America, and below it is the denomination of Ten Dollars. The domination is also indicated in each corner alphabetically and numerically. Overprinted across the center in large capital lettering is the word Hawaii.

History

The 10-dollar bill is the only US currency note where the front portrait faces to the left. The image of Hamilton was introduced in 1928 and is based on an 1805 painting by John Trumbull. Trumbull is responsible for many iconic American artworks, including the majestic 1818 Declaration of Independence. Prior to the 10-dollar bill, Hamilton was featured on the $2, $5, $20, $50, $500, and $1000 notes. The larger denominations were never in circulation and were simply used to move money between banks and the Federal Reserve.
