{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Peace Dollar was launched by the United States Mint in late 1921, stepping in to replace the Morgan Dollar. As the country resumed silver dollar coinage following World War I, the Peace Dollar became a symbol of postwar hope and the last silver dollar to be struck in large numbers for daily use. Provident Metals now offers 1927-D Peace Dollar Silver Coins in certified Mint State condition.
Highlights:
Each 1927-D Peace Dollar Silver Coin available here has been certified in Mint State 62 condition and comes secured in a protective plastic slab. Coins with this grade generally display a weaker mint luster, with several small marks and occasional larger ones in key areas. Fine hairlines are usually present across the surface as well.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 1927-D Peace Dollar shows Liberty in left-profile. Her hair is loose and appears to be blowing in the wind, and a radiant crown sits on her head. This design introduced a new style for Liberty on American coins. The inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRVST, and 1927.
Reverse
On the reverse, the 1927-D Peace Dollar Silver Coin carries a calm scene with a bald eagle perched on rocks. The eagle holds an olive branch in its claws and looks off toward the rising sun, emphasizing the coins peaceful theme. This artwork also came from Anthony de Francisci. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and the D mint mark.
History
The artwork on the Peace Dollar was designed by Anthony de Francisci. His take on Liberty was more modern and youthful compared to earlier U.S. coins, with inspiration drawn from his wife, Teresa. Her flowing hair and the crown of rays atop her head give the image a striking appearance that aimed to reflect the countrys optimism moving into a new era.
