{{/presale}}The United States issued the Silver Certificate Notes from 1878 to 1964 as a form of paper currency backed by silver dollar coins. The denomination of each note was backed by the Treasury and redeemable for its face value in silver dollars. Only in 1967 and 1968 were the notes not redeemable for silver dollars, as by this point the US was issuing raw silver bullion instead at the time of redemption. Provident Metals now has Very Fine+ 1923 $1 Silver Certificate Notes available to purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase the 1923 $1 Silver Certificate Note available in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a specimen that is Very Fine+ condition. Notes in this condition have light to moderate signs of circulation use, light to mild soiling, and fold lines evident throughout the note. Even though the notes show some wear and tear from use in circulation, the paper itself remains crisp and relatively clean. Each note you receive comes in an individual plastic currency sleeve.
Obverse
The obverse of 1923 $1 Silver Certificate Notes features a portrait of President George Washington. Though Washingtons bust had previously featured on American paper currency in the Silver Certificate and United States Note Series, this is the first use of the design that would eventually come to grace the modern $1 Federal Reserve Note still in circulation today.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1923 $1 Silver Certificate Note are printed notations of the denomination of the bill. At the center of the bill is a notation of The United States of America and One Dollar. Above and below this are four more nations of One Dollar. The four corners have a simple numeric 1. In between each of these along the vertical edge of the notes is a 1 with One printed through it.
History
1923 Silver Certificates marked the final design series for the large-sized notes. These visuals would remain on the notes until 1928 when the Silver Certificates debuted in the new small-sized format. The notes were issued with either blue or red ink for the serial numbers and seals on the obverse. Please note that buying several can result in receive notes with the same ink colors. Likewise, Silver Certificates were signed by the Register and Treasurer of the United States, and these signature combinations can also match or vary on the note you receive.
