The Morgan Dollar was the last widely issued US silver dollar. Produced from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, the 27-year release of Morgan Dollar was surpassed only by the original US silver dollar design, the Seated Liberty Dollar. The final year of issue for the Morgan Dollar was 1921 and it was the highest-minted year for the series. Provident Metals currently has 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available to you for purchase online with an NGC certification.

Coins in this condition showcase an above-average mint luster that has an attractive, high-quality appearance for the age of the coin. Each one has light, scattered contact marks without any major flaws in the primary focal areas. It is possible that a few scattered hairlines will be present and that other light scuff marks may be visible.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin comes with a depiction of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. Anna Willess Williams served as George T. Morgans model for this bust of Liberty and he created a portrait that was done in a Greco-Roman theme common in American coins at the time. Liberty wears a wreath crown and a coronet with Liberty inscribed on it. Other inscriptions include E Pluribus Unum and 1921.

Reverse

On the reverse of 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins, there is a vision of the heraldic eagle designed by George T. Morgan. The bald eagle is shown in front-facing relief with the olive branch of peace and the arrows of war in its talons. There is a wreath flanking it on both sides and inscriptions of United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar.

History

The legislation that authorized the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in 1878 expired in 1904, the last year of the original issue series for Morgan Dollars. Following nearly 15 years out of production, a new bill was passed following World War I that authorized the reintroduction of silver dollars. The first release of newly minted silver dollars came in 1921 and featured the original Morgan Dollar design. Though it was the final year, the 1921 Morgan Dollar notched the highest mintage in the history of the series with 40.69 million coins struck at Philadelphia, 20.345 million at Denver with a D mint mark, and 21.695 million at San Francisco with an S mint mark. These 1921 Morgan Dollars come from Philadelphia and have no mint mark.
