{{/presale}}The Morgan Dollar Silver Coin was the last US silver dollar to see widespread use over the course of several decades. Struck for 27 years from 1878 to 1904, and once more in 1921, the Morgan Dollar was surpassed in longevity by only the Seated Liberty Dollar of the early 19th century. Right now, you can buy 1921-2021 Morgan Dollar Rounds online from Provident Metals to mark the 100th anniversary of the final strike of Morgan Dollars!
Highlights:
With your purchase of a 1921-2021 Morgan Dollar Round at Provident Metals, you will receive each coin with a protective plastic capsule and a Certificate of Authenticity from the private mint that produced the rounds. These rounds are not made from pure silver, but rather, from nickel silver. Nickel silver is a copper-based alloy with 60% copper, 20% zinc, and 20% nickel. However, the designs replicate the beauty and splendor of actual historic coin designs. Each one has proof-like visuals, including frosted designs and mirrored fields.
Obverse
Lady Liberty is found on the obverse side of the 1921-2021 Morgan Dollar Round. The portrait of Liberty shown here was created in 1878 and features a left-profile image with Libertys hair held up in a Phrygian cap at the back of her head, while a few strands hang down her neck. She wears a wreath crown and a coronet that says Liberty. E Pluribus Unum is inscribed above her head, seven stars to the front of her face, six stars behind her head, and the centennial dates of 1921-2021 at the bottom.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle of the United States is featured in the reverse design of 1921-2021 Morgan Dollar Rounds. The bird clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons with a wreath framing its figure. The inscriptions include United States of America, In God WE Trust, and the word Centennial.
History
George T. Morgan was in his first year on the job at the US Mint as an assistant engraver in 1878 when he designed the obverse and reverse of the new silver dollar that would come to bear his name. He continued to work at the US Mint through the 1878-1904 initial run for the Morgan Dollar. In 1921 when the Morgan Dollar was brought back, Morgan was still working at the mint. He was now the 7th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and had to recreate dies with the Morgan Dollar designs to be used in the 1921 final issue of Morgan Dollars.
