The Federal Reserve Note debuted in 1914 with $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 denominations. These notes remain in production today with modernized, and in some cases replaced, designs on the obverse and reverse. The 1918 series introduced four large denominations no longer available in the series: $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000. The modern Federal Reserve Note denominations of $1 and $2 were introduced in 1963 and 1976, respectively.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 1914 $5 Federal Reserve Note is a bust of President Abraham Lincoln. The 16^th Commander-in-Chief, President Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address and Emancipation Proclamation among his notable speeches and announcements during his presidency. Reverse

The reverse field of 1914 $5 Federal Reserve Notes features a design that was only used through 1927. These notes were issued with two artistic murals on either side of the blank central field. On the right side of the bill, the Pilgrims row ashore in Massachusetts nearly a century-and-a-half later.

History

President Lincoln is one of only three figures from the 1914 Series of Federal Reserve Notes still present on the modern version of the note. President Ulysses S. Grant remains on the $50 bill from 1914 and Benjamin Franklin remains on the $100 bill from 1914. The $10 image of President Andrew Jackson was eventually moved to the $20 Bill, replacing President Grover Cleveland, and the $10 image was replaced with that of Alexander Hamilton. The modern $1 Federal Reserve Note wasnt introduced in 1963 and the $2 Federal Reserve Note was the latest in 1976.
