When you purchase one of the 1912 10 Corona Austrian Gold Coins in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive your coins with a protective plastic flip. The Austrian Mint issued these coins as commemorative restrikes. In the 1970s, the Austrian Mint issued a number of gold bullion restrikes of previously issued Corona Austrian Gold Coin designs. This particular issue features the 1912 date mark to celebrate the year in which Emperor Franz Joseph I turned 82.
Obverse
Emperor Franz Joseph I was the reigning monarch of the dual monarch known as the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Throughout the entirety of Corona Austrian Gold coin issues at the Austrian Mint, his effigy featured on the obverse of the coins. In this design, Franz Joseph I is featured in right-profile relief with legends around the edge of the field inscribed in Latin that identify Franz Joseph as the Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Reverse
The crowned arms of the Austro-Hungarian Empire features on the reverse of the 1912 10 Corona Austrian Gold Coins. The double-headed eagle design includes a crown atop the bird with the shield of the Habsburg Dynasty on the chest of the bird. It clutches a sword in one talon and a crowned globe in the other talon. The coins face value in Corona is marked with a Roman numeral X for 10 and its date mark appears in both Roman numerals and Arabic numerals.
History
The 10 Corona Austrian Gold Coin was an actual denomination issued by the empire from 1892 when it adopted the gold standard until 1911, with a few specimens released in early 1912. The 20 Corona was the most popular denomination and was issued longer through the middle of World War I.
