{{/presale}}From 1892 to 1916, the United States Mint used a shared Liberty portrait on its Dime, Quarter, and Half Dollar. Known as the Barber Coinage, these three silver denominations were designed by US Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber. The coins shared a common obverse design, with a common design also used on the reverse of the quarter and half dollar. Today, you have the opportunity to get 1908-O 90% Silver Barber Quarters online at Provident Metals in certified condition.
Highlights:
These particular 1908 Silver Barber Quarters come with an O mint mark on the reverse field. This mint mark identifies the New Orleans Mint as the location of production for these coins and is a special option for investors and collectors. The New Orleans Mint closed permanently in 1909, making these Silver Barber Quarters among the last it issued in its long history of US coining.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 1908-O Silver Barber Quarters, you will find a right-profile relief of Liberty. In this design, she wears a Phrygian cap on her head with a laurel wreath crown. The field comes with a total of 13 stars, as well as inscriptions of IN GOD WE TRUST and 1908.
Reverse
The reverse face of the 1908 90% Silver Barber Quarter comes with a vision of the heraldic eagle of the United States. In this front-facing relief, the eagle supports the US national shield with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The design includes a banner with E PLURIBUS UNUM, as well as inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR. There is an O mint mark on this field and a cluster of stars over the head of the eagle.
History
The Barber Coinage was used on the Dime, Quarter, and Half Dollar from 1892 to 1916. The designer of these images, Charles E. Barber, served as the 6th Chief Engraver of the United States, succeeding his own father, William Barber, in the role.
