{{/presale}}The original Morgan Dollar, an emblematic American collectible coin, shares an intimate connection with the captivating tales of the Wild West frontier. Produced between 1878 and 1904, this sought-after coin captivated enthusiasts with its notable dimensions, significant silver composition, and visually distinct pattern. Designed by the talented George T. Morgan during his tenure as Assistant Engraver, its scarcity has amplified over the years due to the natural wear from circulation and the melting down of coins to extract their precious metal content. Right now, you can buy 1900 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online in certified condition at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each of the 1900 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available here comes in NGC plastic slabs with MS63 grades. Coins in this condition exhibit impaired mint luster with clusters of small contact marks, one or two heavier marks, and noticeable hairlines.
Obverse
Adorning the obverse of every 1900 Morgan Dollar is a captivating left-facing profile image of Lady Liberty. George T. Morgan dedicated numerous portrait sessions to Anna Willess Williams, ensuring an accurate portrayal of Liberty for the coin’s front design. Inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1900.
Reverse
The reverse design of all 1900 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins features the striking image of the heraldic eagle, a symbol synonymous with America. The eagle’s talons grasp a bundle of arrows, representing the nation’s defensive might, while the presence of an olive branch symbolizes the pursuit of peace. Engraved on the reverse include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
George T. Morgan designed the original dies for the production of the Morgan Dollar Coins in 1878. At the time, he was in his first year as an Assistant Engraver at the US Mint. When the Morgan Dollar was issued one final time in 1921, Morgan was still employed at the US Mint as the Chief Engraver of the US Mint.
