{{/presale}}In 1899, the Silver Certificate Series in the United States received new designs on the three smallest denominations. The $1, $2, and $5 notes, each of which had just been redesigned in 1896 with the Educational Series images, were redesigned again and given fresh images that would carry the denominations well into the 20th century. Right now, you can buy 1899 $5 Silver Certificate Chief Notes online at Provident Metals in Very Fine condition.

Running Antelope features at the center of the design element on the 1899 $5 Silver Certificate Chief Note. This noble portrait of Running Antelope captures him wearing a ceremonial headdress with blue ink present on the US Treasury seal and the denomination printed to the left side of the note. Each of the corners has the Arabic numeral denomination of 5.
Reverse
In the reverse design of the 1899 $5 Silver Certificate Chief Note is a depiction of the Roman numeral V at the center. This is set against an ornate design element at the center of the field, with 5 printed in the upper corners and Five in the lower corners.
History
Silver Certificates were issued by the United States from 1878 to 1964, with the notes redeemable through 1968. This Running Antelope design was the fourth in the $5 denomination and was the second-longest used image on the $5 Silver Certificate behind the bust of President Abraham Lincoln that appeared on the notes from 1923 until the end of the series.
