Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, designed the Liberty Head Eagle Coin in 1838. This $10 gold coin is one of the most iconic designs in the history of US coinage. While Gobrechts design appeared on $10, $5, and $2.50 denominations, the $10 Liberty Eagle had the longest production run, spanning from 1838 to 1907. Obverse

On the obverse of the 1895 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin is Lady Liberty, depicted in a left-profile portrait wearing a coronet crown. This design was created by Christian Gobrecht and was used on the coin from 1838 until 1907. A ring of stars surrounds Libertys portrait, with the date of minting at the bottom. Inscriptions here include LIBERTY and 1895.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1895 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin features a heraldic eagle, also designed by Gobrecht. The eagles wings are spread, and it clutches the arrows of war and an olive branch of peace. The eagle also holds the US national shield on its chest, and the Type II coins display the national motto on a banner above the eagle. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN D.

History

The $10 Liberty Gold Eagle saw relatively lower production numbers in 1895, with most coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The final mintage from Philadelphia alone was over 567,000 coins. Other mints, such as New Orleans and San Francisco, also struck the coin in smaller quantities that year.
