{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most popular and lasting designs in US coin history. Introduced in 1878, this coin was the work of George T. Morgan, who served as Assistant Engraver for the US Mint. Its release brought back the silver dollar after a five-year break in production. Today, you can find certified 1893 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All 1893 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins offered here have been graded MS62 by the PCGS. These coins display subdued luster with small scattered marks visible across the surface. A few contact points may appear in key areas, but each coin retains a balanced and collectible appearance.
Obverse
On the obverse of 1893 Morgan Dollar Coins, George T. Morgans portrait of Liberty is shown facing left. She wears a Phrygian cap to symbolize freedom, with a laurel wreath and a coronet resting on her head. Thirteen stars surround her, representing the original states of the Union. The inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1893.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1893 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin presents the heraldic eagle. Morgans simplified design shows the eagle holding arrows of war and an olive branch of peace, notably without the central US shield used in other depictions. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
History
The year 1893 was a difficult one for silver dollar production, as the US economy faced major challenges. The repeal of the Sherman Silver Purchase Act during the Panic of 1893 reduced silver demand, leading to much smaller mintages. That year, Philadelphia struck around 378,000 coins, while New Orleans and San Francisco produced 300,000 and 100,000, respectively. The Carson City Mints 1893-CC issue was its last Morgan Dollar, with 677,000 coins made before the mint closed.
