These 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are graded VF30, placing them near the upper end of the Very Fine category (20-35). In this condition, the coin displays light wear across the surfaces, though most design features remain sharp enough to appreciate, including visible lettering and major design details.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Coin features George T. Morgans classic portrait of Lady Liberty. Shown in left-profile, Liberty wears a Phrygian cap with a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY. A laurel wreath rests along her hair, giving the design a strong and traditional appearance. Thirteen stars circle the design to honor the original colonies, and the date is positioned along the bottom rim. The inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1890.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1890-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is Morgans heraldic bald eagle design. The eagle is shown facing forward with its wings stretched outward in a powerful stance. It holds a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, reflecting the balance of military readiness and peaceful intent. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark.
History
The 1890-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is especially interesting because it was issued during the later years of Carson City Mint production. With a mintage of 2,309,041 coins, the issue appears fairly available on paper, but collectors often note that surviving examples in higher uncirculated grades are not as common as the mintage would imply. This is largely because fewer 1890-CC dollars were stored away in Treasury vaults compared to other Carson City dates, meaning more pieces entered circulation and saw everyday use.
