{{/presale}}The Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is named after George T. Morgan, the 7th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. These coins hold a special place in the precious metals industry, with their iconic Lady Liberty and bald eagle designs. The 1889 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin from the Philadelphia Mint struck a total of 21,726,000 pieces. This historic coin can be yours today at Provident Metals, along with an MS64 grade from the NGC.
Highlights:
Each 1889 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin will arrive in an NGC protective slab, preserving its MS64 grade. The coin has been graded by the National Guaranty Corporation, one of the most reputable coin-grading providers in the world. MS64 coins display an average strike and luster along with scattered contact marks and hairline scratches, some of which can be in prime focal areas.
Obverse
The obverse field of the 1889 Morgan Dollar Coin displays George T. Morgan’s iconic Lady Liberty design. She is depicted facing left, wearing the Phrygian cap, and surrounded by 13 stars symbolizing the original 13 colonies. Inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1889.
Reverse
On the reverse side, you’ll find a majestic bald eagle about to take flight, holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The design is completed with decorative laurels tied together by a ribbon. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
History
Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were minted annually from 1878-1904. They had a one-year comeback in 1921 and then again starting in 2021. Among the 1878-1904 releases, the highest mintage was the 1889 coin minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Keep in mind that coins without a mint mark were struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
