Once again, the renowned Philadelphia Mint took the lead, proudly striking the highest number of coins throughout the entire decade of 1880 to 1889. And now, Provident Metals presents you with a unique opportunity to conveniently acquire certified 1889 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins through our secure online platform.
Highlights:
Each 1889 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin available at Provident Metals is in MS64 condition. Coins in this condition display an average mint luster with several small contact marks in groups and one or two moderate marks. They may also exhibit one or two small patches of hairlines and noticeable scuff marks.
Obverse
The captivating obverse design of the 1889 Morgan Dollar showcases a left-profile bust of Liberty. Masterfully crafted by the talented George T. Morgan, this rendition features Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap accentuated by a coronet crown and a resplendent laurel wreath delicately adorning her hair.
Reverse
Now, shifting our focus to the reverse side, we encounter the majestic heraldic eagle. Also designed by Morgan, this striking portrayal presents a bald eagle facing forward, wings outstretched wide, as it clasps the arrows symbolizing war and the olive branch signifying peace.
History
Other notable events in 1889 in the United States include the first issue of what would become The Wall Street Journal. In July 1889, the first issue of The Wall Street Journal was published. Initially named the “Dow Jones & Company: Customer’s Afternoon Letter,” it provided financial news and information for businesspeople. Over time, it evolved into one of the most influential and widely read newspapers in the United States, focusing on business and economic topics.
