The 1886 release of Morgan Dollar Silver Coin at the United States Mint marked a unique three-year run in which the Carson City Mint dropped out of production of the coins. Now, 1886 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are available to you for purchase online at Provident Metals in certified condition.

The 1880s was the most productive decade for the striking of Morgan Silver Dollars. From 1880 to 1889, the Philadelphia Mint and the New Orleans Mint lead the way in striking Morgan Dollars, producing millions of coins each year.

Obverse

Obverse visuals on these 1886 Morgan Silver Dollars include the effigy of Lady Liberty. Designed by George T. Morgan, the image shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap on her head with the coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair.

Reverse

Reverse design elements on 1886 Morgan Dollars feature the heraldic eagle. Also created by Morgan, this visual shows a bald eagle in front-facing relief with spread wings. The eagle clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.

History

Throughout the 1880s, the Philadelphia Mint struck more Morgan Dollars each year than any other mint. In fact, for the decade 1880-1889, the Philadelphia Mint struck a staggering 158.172 million coins for the Morgan Dollar Series.

Ordering

These 1886 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are MS64 specimens. Coins with this grade have average mint luster with clusters of small contact marks, one or two moderate marks, and one or two patches of small hairlines.
