{{/presale}}When you encounter listings for Morgan Dollars with GSA included in the terminology, it refers to a vast collection of previously-uncirculated Morgan Dollars the US Treasury discovered in its vaults in the 1960s. The Government Services Administration audited the collection to determine dates and mints of origin, and then auctioned off the coins to the public for collectors to own. Many of the coins represented previously rare date marks and mint marks. Right now, you can get 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in GSA packaging online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Provident Metals is pleased to offer you these 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins with the original inner packaging from the Government Services Administration. The GSA packaged the coins inside of hard plastic holders with a background card identifying the mint of origin and condition of the coin.
Obverse
Lady Liberty is found in the obverse design of 1884-CC Morgan Dollars. This design from George T. Morgan shows Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a coronet with Liberty inscribed on it. She also wears a wreath crown on her head and has a cap at the back of her head holding up much of her hair. Inscriptions include E Pluribus Unum and 1884.
Reverse
A version of the heraldic eagle is featured on the reverse side of 1884-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This vision of the heraldic eagle was created by Morgan as well and lacks the traditional US national shield on the chest of the eagle. It does include the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in the talons of the bird. It comes with inscriptions of United States of America, In God We Trust, One Dollar, and the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.
History
1884-CC Morgan Dollars such as the ones offered in this listing were discovered in the 1960s sitting in US Treasury vaults in uncirculated condition. After the GSAs audit of the more than $3 million in Morgan Dollar Coins, it was determined that a large number of Carson City coins never reached circulation. From the 1,136,000 coins struck in Carson City in 1884, 962,000 wound up sitting in Treasury vaults.
