{{/presale}}The 1883 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin from the Carson City Mint was one of the last issues from the mint during its initial production period from 1878 to 1885. The Carson City Mint issued the fewest number of Morgan Dollars during the 19th century, but several years have impressive survivability numbers thanks to the discovery of hundreds of thousands of Carson City Morgan Dollars in Treasury vaults in the 1960s. Provident Metals now has certified 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase the 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that was certified Mint State 65 by the PCGS. Coins in this condition still showcase an above-average, high-quality mint luster for the date mark. The coins may feature a range of flaws, but these are limited to one or two clusters of smaller contact marks, one or two heavier contact marks, and/or one or two patches of hairlines. These coins remain visually appealing more than 130 years after being struck by the US Mint.
Obverse
The obverse of 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins features a portrait of Lady Liberty from George T. Morgan. The coins have a left-profile effigy of Liberty as she wears a Phrygian cap on her head with the coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair. The field includes 13 stars along the bottom edge of the design field, an inscription of E PLURIBUS UNUM overhead, and the 1883 date mark at the bottom center of the field.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Coin is the heraldic eagle of the United States. Also created by George T. Morgan, this design element features a front-facing bald eagle with its wings spread and its talons clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR. There is a wreath of oak and laurel that frames the heraldic eagle, and beneath the bow at its center, you will find the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.
History
Carson City Mint Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were issued from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893. In the 1878-1885 range, the 1883 coin had the second-highest mintage and has a survivability rate of 62.75% of the original mintage thanks to hundreds of thousands of the coins winding up in Treasury vaults for decades, rather than rotating in circulation.
