The “Morgan dollar” silver coin has been the most iconic and sought-after item in all of numismatics for decades. Once esteemed as a rarity, their profile on the collectors’ market was decisively changed with the discovery of a vast untapped hoard in the 1960s. Certain items became robustly available to investors as the millions of coins in that hoard were promoted for auction. One notable example was the 1883 issue from the Carson City Mint, sixty percent of which mintage had languished in Treasury vaults until the famous “Hoard of Morgans” was unearthed. These 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins are now available from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Comes in a tamper-proof protective plastic slab, labeled to certify its NGC MS-62 grade!
  • Struck at the Carson City Mint in 1883!
  • Has a 90% silver and 10% copper composition and contains 0.7734 Troy oz of silver in total.
  • Face value of $1 backed by the United States.
  • Obverse field features a profile effigy of Lady Liberty.
  • Reverse field features a heraldic eagle.

This 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin ships in secure plastic packaging with a label that identifies its grade of Mint State 62, which identifies a coin with an acceptable level of eye appeal despite possible contact marks and hairline scratches in prime focal areas and potentially impaired luster.

Obverse

The obverse field features Lady Liberty in effigy alongside the inscriptions “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “1883.” Thirteen decorative stars at the rim represent the nation’s founding states.

Reverse

The reverse field shows a heraldic eagle carrying a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, along with the “CC” mint mark and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

History

The Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) certified this coin’s uncirculated “mint state” grade according to the standardized Sheldon scale measuring condition and visual appeal. Since its founding in 1987, the company’s experts have promoted a reliable approach to assessing rare coins, as well as tamper-proof packaging that ensures the authenticity of coins on arrival. Having issued more than 55 million coin certifications over the decades, they are one of the most trusted names in third-party coin grading, trusted by dealers all over the world.
