Obverse

History

The Carson City Mint in Nevada operated for a relatively brief period in the 19th century, but is perhaps the most storied of American mints thanks to its association with the historic silver boom that helped drive the settlement of the West, not to mention the fact that some of the most famous of all the nation’s silver and gold coinage was struck there. Between 1870 and 1893, the mint struck more than a hundred gold and silver coins, including the majority of the silver dollars that would later be discovered in the GSA Hoard of Morgans.
