{{/presale}}A stash of uncirculated Morgan Dollar Silver Coins was discovered in the Treasury vaults in the early 1960s. Known as the GSA Hoard of Morgans, the General Services Administration organized an auction to sell these coins in the 1970s and 1980s. Among the most common coins found were the 1883 and 1884 coins minted in Carson City, like this 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin. Secure yours today at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin will arrive in a protective slab, accompanied by a label displaying the certified grade from the NGC. All coins in this listing have received an MS61 grade from this reputable coin-grading provider. MS61 coins may show some signs of wear, including diminished mint luster, minor contact marks, and hairlines.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 1883-CC Dollar Silver Coin features Lady Liberty, designed by George T. Morgan. The left-profile relief image showcases Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, and interestingly, Morgan based this design on the likeness of a Philadelphia school teacher named Anna Williams. Inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1883.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Coins, you’ll find George T. Morgan’s heraldic eagle design. The iconic image depicts the national bird of the United States appearing to take flight, holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, while decorative laurels are tied together by a ribbon below the eagle. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, CC, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
The stash of uncirculated Morgan Dollar Silver Coins that were discovered totaled nearly 3 million. Of these 3 million, over 95% were coins that were struck at the Carson City Mint. Upon the discovery, several Morgan Dollar Silver Coins that were once considered rare were now available. The 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins had a total mintage of 1,204,000. Only 449,000 were initially made available as the other 755,000 would be discovered in this GSA Hoard.
