Obverse

Lady Liberty is shown on the obverse of 1882-CC Morgan Dollars. In this design, we see Liberty facing left with a Phrygian cap and a crown of cotton and wheat upon her head. Her face is based on the profile image of a woman from Philadelphia named Anna Willess Williams. You will find inscriptions also on the obverse reading E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1882.

Reverse

A heraldic eagle design is found on the reverse of 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. In this image, we see the eagle with its wings spread wide as it clutches arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Inscriptions on the reverse face read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR. You will also see the Carson City mintmark on the reverse.

History

The Carson City Mint was designed by architect Alfred B. Mullett and consisted of an impressive Renaissance Revival sandstone structure. In 1870, a Seated Liberty Dollar became the first coin struck at Carson City. To designate this fact, that coin and all others produced there received a CC mintmark just below the heraldic eagle on the reverse field. Minting operations ceased at Carson City in 1893, and by 1899 the mint formally closed its doors. Today, the structure still stands and is home to the Nevada State Museum.
