Carson City Morgan Silver Dollars are well known for their connection to Nevadas silver mining boom. The Carson City Mint opened in 1870 to strike coins using silver sourced from the Comstock Lode and continued producing coinage until 1893. Morgan Dollars from this facility carry the distinctive CC mint mark, a detail that continues to make these coins highly collectible today. At the moment, 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins are offered through Provident Metals.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Coin is the famous Lady Liberty design created by George T. Morgan. Liberty is shown in left-profile relief wearing a Phrygian cap, along with a coronet and laurel wreath. The field includes 13 stars surrounding the portrait, and the date is displayed beneath Liberty along the lower rim. Inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and 1882.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin comes with a heraldic eagle design also created by George T. Morgan. The eagle is shown facing forward with its wings extended. It holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, representing both military strength and peace. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark.

History

The 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is often considered one of the easier Carson City issues for collectors to locate. With a recorded mintage of 1,133,000 coins, it had a stronger production number than many other CC Morgan Dollars. Even so, the appeal of the Carson City mint mark has helped keep this issue popular for generations, making it an important coin for Morgan Dollar enthusiasts.
