{{/presale}}For Morgan Silver Dollar collectors, it doesnt get much better than a Carson City edition housed in an original GSA holder and graded by NGC. Because these original GSA cases are quite popular, NGC retained the original packaging of the coin while adding a label to confirm the official grade of Mint State 65+. Right now, you can buy certified 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins online from Provident Metals.
Coin Highlights:
Each of these 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins was struck at the historic Carson City Mint in Nevada. The coins were later discovered in Treasury Vaults and placed in special GSA protective holders. They were then sent to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, where they received an official grade of MS65+. As such, they may also be in slightly better condition than a standard Mint State 65 coin.
Obverse
Lady Liberty is shown on the obverse side of 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollars. For this design, engraver George T. Morgan enlisted the help of Philadelphia school teacher Anna Willess Williams, who sat for him five times before the portrait was completed. You will find inscriptions on the obverse as well that read E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1882.
Reverse
The American heraldic eagle is found on the reverse face of these Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. In line with the classic US seal, the eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The olive branch signifies the peace America strives for, while the arrows represent her readiness to defend her borders at all costs. The Carson City mintmark is shown on the reverse as well as inscriptions reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, IN GOD WE TRUST.
History
Due to the 19th-centurysilver boom at Comstock Lode, the US Mint added the Carson City branch to facilitate the minting of coins there. However, as the silver supply dried up, there was no longer any need for this historic branch. The final Carson City Morgans were minted in June of 1893, and by 1899 the branch had officially closed its doors. For decades, Carson City Morgan dollars were largely obsolete, but in the 1960s, nearly three million were discovered in Treasury vaults. They were later sold to the public in special GSA holders through a series of auctions from 1972 until 1980.
