{{/presale}}Provident Metals is pleased to offer a historic Morgan Silver Dollar from the Carson City Mint! In addition, the coins are part of the GSA hoard, which consisted of millions of silver coins discovered in Treasury vaults in the 1960s. The coins are in their original GSA holders and have also been certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Provident Metals currently has certified GSA 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available to purchase online.
Coin Highlights:
Each of these 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Coins consists of 90% silver and is also considered legal tender by the United States. Originally minted in Carson City, these coins were later discovered in the GSA hoard and certified by NGC. Upon delivery, you will find your coin housed in the original GSA holder with a label bearing their official grade of Mint State 61.
Obverse
A portrait of Lady Liberty features on the obverse of these Morgan Silver Dollar Coins. The effigy was created by George T. Morgan, who used a Philadelphia school teacher named Anna Williams as a model for the design. Inscriptions are also found that read E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1882.
Reverse
A bald eagle is depicted on the reverse of 1882-CC Morgan Silver Dollars. The eagle is facing forward and clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Surrounding the bird is a pair of laurels, under which youll find the Carson City mintmark. There are also inscriptions that read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.
History
Minted with silver from the legendary Comstock Lode, Carson City Morgans are quite popular with Old West enthusiasts. In fact, they were even referred to as the coins that Jesse James never got in one of the original GSA sales. These public auctions took place in the 1970s and 1980s and allowed the public to purchase Carson City Morgans which had been discovered in Treasury vaults during the 1960s. To help distinguish the coins from this hoard, the Government Services Administration placed them in special blue holders that carry significant appeal for collectors today.
