{{/presale}}Many consider the Morgan Silver Dollar to be one of the U.S. Mints most iconic coins. First struck in 1878, the design features a classic Lady Liberty portrait along with a bald eagle rendering flanked with laurels. If you collect Morgans, youll also appreciate that this version has been officially certified by PCGS. Provident Metals now offers 1881 Morgan Silver Dollar Coins to you for purchase online in certified condition.
Coin Highlights:
When you order 1881 Morgan Dollar Coins, you will receive a 90% silver specimen with legal tender status in the United States. The coins were originally struck at the U.S. Mint and later were sent to PCGS for certification. Following professional inspection, the coins were awarded a grade of Mint State 63. Upon arrival, youll find your coin housed in a classic PCGS slab.
Obverse
On the obverse of Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, Lady Liberty is shown in left-profile relief. In this iconic rendition, Ms. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, crown of wheat, and headband inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Youll find other inscriptions along the edges reading E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1881.
Reverse
The reverse of 1881 Morgan Silver Dollars contains a bald eagle in flight. As it soars with open wings, youll notice the bird is carrying an olive branch and arrows in its talons. These are considered symbols of peace and war. Reverse inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.
History
When George T. Morgan set out to design a new Liberty Dollar coin for the U.S. Mint, he took an unusual route. Rather than merely relying on classical Greek design like his predecessors often did, Morgan enlisted a real American woman to model as Liberty. Her name was Anna Willess Williams, a schoolteacher from Philadelphia. When the coin entered circulation in 1878, Williams became a figure of public fascination despite her wishes to remain anonymous.
