{{/presale}}If you want to own a unique piece of history from the American Old West, then you may find Carson City silver dollars to be of interest. These pieces were struck from silver mined at Comstock Lode, which was the first major silver ore discovered in the US. The minting itself took place at the historic Carson City Mint, which today functions as the Nevada State Museum. Right now, you can buy 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins online at Provident Metals.
Coin Highlights:
All 1881-CC Morgan Dollar Coins in this Provident Metals online listing will bear the iconic CC mintmark on the reverse design. For many collectors, this mintmark is highly desirable and puts the coin in a class of its own. Upon arrival, you will find your Morgan dollar encased in a plastic slab from the Professional Coin Grading Service. This particular coin received a grade of Mint State 65, which is listed on a label above the coin.
Obverse
The obverse of 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollars features a bust of Lady Liberty. This personification of the United States is depicted with a laurel crown and a Phrygian cap as she faces to the left. The finer details of her shape are modeled after Anna Willess Williams, who sat for designer George T. Morgan in 1876. Obverse inscriptions read E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1881.
Reverse
On the reverse field of 1881-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Coins, youll see the heraldic eagle with its wings spread wide. While you wont find the national shield on this eagles chest, you will see the symbolic arrows and olive branch in its talons. Also visible on the reverse are inscriptions that read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR.
History
The Morgan Silver Dollar was first issued from 1878 to 1904. During this initial run, select Morgan dollars were minted at Carson City, a mint in Nevada that closed in 1899. Morgan Dollars would continue again in 1921 before being replaced by the Peace Silver Dollar. Then in 2021, the Morgan dollar saw new life, as a limited run of centennial pieces were released by the US Mint.
