{{/presale}}The Morgan Dollar Silver Coin was issued by the United States Mint from 1878 to 1904 and one final time in 1921. Throughout this period, the Carson City Mint issued not only the fewest coins in the series each year, but it also issued the fewest number of date marks in the series at just 13 years in total. Provident Metals now has certified 1881-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase an 1881-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin online in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that is in Mint State 62 condition. Coins at this grade level showcase impaired or dull mint luster with several small contact mark clusters, a handful of larger marks or scuffs in the primary focal fields, and noticeable hairlines throughout.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1881-CC Morgan Dollar comes with a Liberty portrait created in 1878 by George T. Morgan. This vision of Liberty shows her head in left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap. She is also wearing a coronet crown and a laurel wreath. There is an inscription above her head that reads E PLURIBUS UNUM, with the word LIBERTY inscribed on the coronet crown. The field offers 13 stars and an 1881 date mark.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1881-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is an image of the US heraldic eagle. This design was created for this coin series in 1878 and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with its wings spread wide and its talons clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Inscriptions on this side of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.
History
The 1881 release of Morgan Dollar Silver Coins featured one of the lowest mintages in the history of the series. Of the 296,000 coins originally struck in 1881, some 49% of those coins were discovered sitting in US Treasury vaults in the 1960s and later sold at auction as part of the GSA Hoard in the 1970s and 1980s.
