History
In 1878, the production of the $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle was undertaken by three U.S. Mints, with the San Francisco facility producing the majority of these coins. During the post-Civil War and Reconstruction periods, the San Francisco Mint played a crucial role in minting gold coins to support the expanding economy in the Western United States. Its substantial output reflects the economic importance and the abundant gold resources of the region during that time.
