Historic American coins are some of the most treasured in the world. The Morgan Silver Dollar was only minted between 1878 and 1904, and they marked the return of a silver dollar in the United States after a short hiatus. The coins were designed by George T. Morgan, who originally worked for the Royal Mint in Britain. Today, you can purchase these coins from Provident Metals in MS66 condition.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective plastic slab from either the NGC or PCGS!
  • Struck between 1878 and 1904!
  • Each coin contains .77344 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Given a face value of $1 (USD) backed by the United States government.
  • Given a grade of Mint State 66 from either the Professional Coin Grading Service or the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Obverse feature the image of Lady Liberty.
  • Reverse showcases the American bald eagle.

These coins are in Mint State 66 condition as determined by either the PCGS or the NGC. This condition means that the coins could have minimal, but obvious, detracting marks or hairlines on the surface.

Obverse

On the obverse of each coin, you will see the left-profile portrait of Liberty as designed by Morgan. The image is said to reflect the image of Anna Willess Williams, who sat through sessions with Morgan to complete the image. You will find the word Liberty and the year of issue on this side of the coin.

Reverse

The reverse face of each coin showcases the image of a bald eagle, which was created by Morgan. The eagle is similar to the heraldic eagle design, but it lacks the shield from that design. The eagles wings are outstretched, and it clutches arrows and an olive branch of peace in its talons.

History

These coins were only minted between the years of 1878 and 1904. They were the first silver dollar coins after a hiatus that began in 1873. The Bland-Allison Act of 1873 ended the free coining of silver at the United States Mint, which ended the production of silver dollar coins.
