{{/presale}}It’s understandable that collectors and investors often gravitate toward high-grade and visually appealing coins both as investments and as attractive pieces of numismatic art in their own right. There is another option, however, that allows investors who face budget constraints to enhance the value of their portfolios at highly affordable premiums. This option is investment in so-called “cull” coins: pieces that show signs of heavy wear or damage, but whose precious metal content remains valuable in its own right. The Provident Metals team provides access to this special type of investment in the form of the 1878-1893 CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin.
Highlights:
The 1878-1893 CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin is available in supplies drawn on the secondary market and in low-grade “cull coin” quality showing a range of dates from 1878 to 1885, and from 1889 to 1893. An order can be comprised of coins showing any of these dates of issue, depending on the current inventory. Provident Metals ships each coin in a plastic flip-top container and fully insures the shipping process.
Obverse & Reverse
Each coin’s obverse field will show an effigy of Lady Liberty along with the lettering “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and the year of issue. The reverse field will show a heraldic eagle, the “CC” mint mark, and the coin’s face value. Cull coins will typically show a variety of kinds of circulation wear, dents, scratches, and potentially even bending or holes, all of which may impair the visibility of design elements. Despite this, the silver content of each cull coin is guaranteed and provides the true measure of its value.
History
“Morgan dollar” silver coins represent an important period in the history of American currency and were produced in great numbers at several branch mints in a late 19th-century effort to shore up supplies of the American silver dollar. Many uncirculated variants of these coins found their way into U.S. Treasury Vaults where they languished in obscurity until they were rediscovered in the late 20th century. Many more worn, circulated variants were melted down for sale of their precious metal contents. Some of the more worn Morgan dollars, however, persisted on the collectors’ market, with their unusual size and precious metals composition helping them to retain a certain value despite the wear and tear of time. Such cull coins are the focus of this listing.
