{{/presale}}The paper notes of the Confederate States dollar had designs that were similar to those of the United States dollar and often featured Southern dignitaries. Confederate States notes were distinctive in that the bills were cut by hand and often featured handwritten signatures from treasurers. Provident Metals now has 1864 $500 Confederate States Notes in uncirculated condition available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase an 1864 $500 Confederate States Note in this product listing at Provident Metals, you will receive a note that is individually housed in its own protective plastic currency sleeves. These notes come in uncirculated condition. Notes in this condition have no fold lines and may show only minor signs of handling, but this handling comes from counting and production of the notes. The notes may also have issues with the margins straying into the central designs of the note. Please keep in mind that you could get notes with the same exact conditions when you buy several.
Designs
The obverse of the 1864 $500 Confederate States Note comes with a depiction of the Confederate States of America seal. The seal is found on the left side of the note with the second national flag of the Confederacy. The other primary image on this side of the notes is a portrait of Stonewall Jackson. This side of the note has the handwritten signatures of a treasurer and hand-stamped serial numbers. On the reverse side of the note, there is no primary design. This blank field may, however, show signs of the ink bleeding through from the obverse.
History
Confederate States notes were issued between 1861 and 1864 through seven different series. The final series of notes, authorized in 1864, offered $500 notes as the highest denomination and included the release of $200 million in Confederate States dollars. After the conclusion of the war and the Confederacys decisive defeat, the notes were rendered worthless as the Union refused to recognize any of the debts of the CSA.
