{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}Goldbacks are a privately issued form of voluntary local currency made from a thin layer of 24-karat gold sealed between sheets of protective polyester film. Each note features carefully crafted artwork and includes a precise fractional amount of real gold. This innovative format makes Goldbacks one of the few modern currency options that contain gold intended for circulation. The series first debuted in Utah and has since expanded into other states, combining the traditional value of precious metals with a design meant for practical use. The Idaho Goldback is the latest addition to the program and introduces a new denomination while continuing the tradition of designs inspired by the state itself. Today, 100 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes are available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 100 Idaho Goldback Gold Notes represent the largest denomination currently offered in the Idaho series. Each note is issued individually and comes packaged in a protective plastic sleeve to help preserve its condition. Goldbacks also include several advanced security measures, such as UV-sensitive elements, micro-printing details, and unique serial numbers that help confirm authenticity.
Design
For the design of the 100 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, Libertas is shown walking forward while holding a shovel in her hand. She moves through a field with the powerful Shoshone Falls visible in the background. Shoshone Falls is located along the Snake River in Idahos Magic Valley near the city of Twin Falls. The waterfall drops approximately 212 feet, which is nearly 50 feet taller than Niagara Falls, making it one of the most impressive natural waterfalls on the continent. The falls span nearly 1,000 feet across at their widest point and were formed when the ancient Bonneville Flood carved through layers of basalt lava flows around 14,500 years ago. For many generations, the falls held cultural and spiritual importance for Indigenous peoples of the region, including the Shoshone-Bannock tribes.
History
Libertas, the Roman goddess who represents liberty, has long served as a symbol of freedom across Western culture. In ancient Rome, Libertas represented the civic values and freedoms that citizens were expected to uphold and defend. Her image appeared on coins and monuments as a reminder of the importance of liberty in Roman society. Over time, the figure of Libertas became an enduring allegory used in many cultures and political movements, eventually inspiring the familiar image of the Statue of Liberty standing in New York Harbor today.
